Gwendolyn "Wendy" Hamblin Obituary

Wendy Hamblin

Gwendolyn M. 'Wendy' Hamblin passed this life January 30, 2024 peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. She was 70 years of age.

Wendy was born December 17, 1953 in Brunswick, GA to parents Jeff David Morgan and Jane Johnson Morgan. She graduated from Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick in 1971. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church during the years of Pastor Richard Smith.

After graduation she moved to Tullahoma to live with her grandmother while attending Tullahoma Beauty School. It was during this time and by a chance meeting she met the love of her life in Bill Hamblin and she never returned to Brunswick. They were soon married entering into a marriage of 51 years until the end of her life having two successful children and three wonderful grandchildren.

After graduating beauty school and getting her license her working life began as a cosmetologist at the Beauty Chalet soon moving to Castner Knott as a stylist. She later went to work for Dr. Charles Webb at the Gray-Webb clinic for a number of years establishing many friendships she has maintained throughout the rest of life. She eventually went to work for the Jacobs Corp. in HR as a benefits specialist where she retired in 2019 after twenty years service.

Wendy had a passion for many things but her talent for growing things was truly amazing. Her home was filled with house plants grown from seeds or cuttings over the years with some over fifty years old. She had a passion for cooking as well and her chili, chicken and rice, potato salad and chocolate chip cookies were legendary. Her chili won the Jacobs Corp. chili competition every single year she entered it. However, her true passion and greatest love was her family. She considered her children and grandchildren her greatest accomplishments and the greatest of God's gifts.

Wendy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jeff David Morgan Jr. of Blythe, GA and Michael Edward Morgan of Waycross, GA.

She leaves behind to cherish her loving memories husband Bill Hamblin, son Billy (Shannon) Hamblin, daughter Ashley (Jason) Reed, grandsons Jackson Hamblin and Cody Hamblin and granddaughter Chesnie Cox, brother in law David Hamblin and sister in law Vickie (Tom) Giel as well as a multitude of friends she made over the years. And, of course, her fur baby Simon.

Per Wendy's wishes she will be cremated and her ashes spread at Jekyll Island (Georgia) where she and Bill spent countless days throughout their lives.

The family would like to thank Dr. Donald Tucker and his staff at the Family Medical Center and the staff at Compassus Hospice Care in Tullahoma for their commitment to Wendy's comfort and welfare and ask that donations be made to Compassus Hospice Care.
Our angel has gone home.
