James Alton Meeks, age 77, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed from this life on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Elk River Nursing Home in Winchester, Tennessee.
James was born on March 9, 1945, the son of the late James and Delia Meeks. Before retiring he worked as a Forman for the city of Tracy City. He was a jack of all trades, and loved to do various different things. He enjoyed going to the flea market, auctions, and gun shows. He loved to go to church and spend time with his family. He was a kind soul with a generous heart of gold.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Meeks; son, James Lawson; three brothers, Floyd Meeks, Martin Meeks, and Wilson Meeks; son in law, Ralph Green. He is survived by two daughters, Wanda Boswell and Rose Green and her children, Heath Green and Cyle Green; great grandchildren, Courtney Green, Jameson Green, and Janie Green; one brother, Clay Meeks; two sisters, Linda Hairriman and Mary Meeks; granddaughter, Amanda King (Jeff) and her children, Jonathan Thompson, Chase Layne, and Jake Layne; grandson, Kevin Thompson and his child, Alicia Thompson; eight grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; special friend, Homer Hunziker.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Tracy City at 2:00 PM with Deacon Claude Hoback officiating. Internment to immediately follow in Plain View Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Tracy City from 2:00PM until 8:00PM.
